  • Blogger Interview With Lily Storm From The Lily Storm Blog

Scroll down to read my interview with Cape Town based blogger, Kashiefa Parker aka Lily Storm. She shares her love for Health/Wellness, Beauty and some yummy recipes:-)

Tell me a bit about yourself and your blog?

My name is Kashiefa Parker (most people think it’s Lily Storm lol). I am 36 years old, married, and an only child. A private banker by day, and blogger / social media enthusiast by night. I live in the Southern Suburbs, Cape Town. My blog mainly covers beauty, lifestyle and wellness topics. I have recently embarked on a weight loss and fitness journey, and I am documenting my progress – so this has become a big focus.

What inspired you to start your blog, and when did you know it was something you wanted to do?

I started my blog back in 2012. I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing. When I was a young girl back in primary school I used to write short stories and poetry in my spare time. So when blogging became an actual thing, naturally I was drawn to it. The blog though, was born from a difficult and lonely period in my life. I found it therapeutic to diarize my thoughts and also share my passion for the things I loved. It was also fun to interact with the online community and inspire others.

What made you choose the name Lily Storm for your blog?

I have two female bull terriers, and their names are Lily and Storm:-)

Who takes the majority of your photos?

    Me! I love photography!

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

Because I have a full time day job, it is quite hard to post regularly…but I know that one has to consistently create good quality content to remain relevant. I do try to only post topics and photos that I am truly excited about and happy with – instead of churning out content just for the sake of it.

    What makes you happy?

Writing (obviously 🙂), photography, my pets (I have 2 bull terriers and 2 german shepherds), my husband and family, and leading a healthy lifestyle.

What is your current beauty routine, and name a few products you can’t live without?

Since I was in high school, I have always cleansed, toned and moisturized. Religiously. Every day! I exfoliate twice a week, and use a mask every Sunday evening. Anyone who knows me…knows that I am manic about skincare. For me, a good skincare regime is way more important than makeup. The products I currently can’t live without is the Garnier Micellar Water (always remove makeup before bedtime!), Suki Suki Naturals Acai Gentle Exfoliating Mask, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Therapy, any body butter from The Body Shop, Maybelline Mascara and blush. I also drink about 3 litres of water a day to keep my skin hydrated.

How would you describe your personal style?

Definitely laid back and somewhat bohemian. I love kaftans, pretty flowing tops and blouses and waterfall type knits. I have recently discovered the power of a good pair of jeans and sneakers though 🙂

What are the first items you gravitate toward when shopping?

In summer – floral dresses. Winter – loose knits and neutral colours.

When you are not blogging, what do you do to relax?

I love watching series (Keeping up with the Kardashians…yes I’m embarrassed lol, Revenge Body, The Fixer), and I am addicted to YouTube videos and checking out other local bloggers.

What is your favourite food and dessert?

Since I’ve started to ‘eat clean’, I’ve genuinely become fond of healthy food such as salads and grilled fish, chicken and steak. It just makes me feel good as opposed to bloated. My sweet tooth has not completely died yet, so I love a good crème brulee or pudding as dessert.

What are you reading right now?

The Five Love Languages – by Gary Chapman

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in the world of blogging?

Be yourself. Be authentic. Decide what it is you’re passionate about and stick to it. Find a niche. Speak to your audience as you would a friend.
