  • Blogger Interview With Cheyenne From Princess Warrior: The Blog

Scroll down to read my interview with Durban based blogger, Cheyenne as she talks about her own beauty routine, personal style and so much more x

Tell me a bit about yourself and your blog?

I’m a 24 year old final year journalism student. My blog is lifestyle themed and is basically a reflection of my interests and journey as a whole, as well as stories from people who inspire me.

What inspired you to start your blog, and when did you know it was something you wanted to do?

I’ve always had a love for writing, and I tried to do book and music blogging for a while, until I realised that if I was going to put so much heart into a blog, it needed to be something I’m truly passionate about. Thus, I created Princess Warrior: The Blog, to be a space to share my journey and the stories of other inspiring women.

What made you choose the name Princess Warrior for your blog?

The name Cheyenne actually means Princess Warrior, and truthfully, as a child, I wished for a more common name. As I’ve gotten older, Princess Warrior has become an identity, and the kind of woman I want to be, as regal as a princess, but also fierce and tough, as a warrior should be.

Who takes the majority of your photos?

So far, I did my own photography aside from the odd photoshoot, but I’ve recently partnered with Durban based photographer, Aamina Mohammed, who will take over with that.

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

It can be hard balancing blogging with other responsibilities, and even harder when the growth of your blog and social media isn’t what you’d like it to be, but I’ve had so many women express to me that my honesty regarding my battle with depression, etc. is so relatable, and this keeps me going back and writing more. If I can help one woman understand that she isn’t alone, then the aim of my blog is being achieved.

    What makes you happy?

It really doesn’t take much to give me joy. Just family, or a good book, or even hearing the stories of other powerful women can probably make my heart burst with happiness.

What is your current beauty routine, and name a few products you can’t live without?

My beauty routine is as simple as it comes. Due to a ton of allergies, I tend to find a routine that works, and I stick to it. I always need a good face scrub, due to having super oily skin, and I’ve found that the natural range, The Good Stuff, works best. I also love their Bamboo and White Tea facial toner. I recently swore off facial creams, as they just aggravated my skin, so now I just rub in some good old calamine lotion (which is also an amazing primer!). Eye cream is a huge must for me. I’ve been using Nivea’s Q10 for years, and it works great for me. I love makeup, but I try and restrict how much I use to ensure the health of my skin. Lastly, water, water and more water. I’m religious about getting enough water, and it’s my skin’s best friend.

How would you describe your personal style?

Though I love heels and dresses as much as any girl, you’ll usually catch me in a good pair of ripped jeans, a slouchy tee or vest and some sneakers. My personal style is super laid back and fuss free, with just a cute statement piece here and there.

What are the first items you gravitate toward when shopping?

Always a cute tee. I can’t get enough of graphic t-shirts, and sneakers, of course!

When you are not blogging, what do you do to relax?

I love cuddling with my poodle and reading a book. I’m a big introvert, so I’m most at peace when I’m in my bedroom with good music, my dog and a book.

What is your favourite food and dessert?

I’m obsessed with pizza! If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, this girl is just gonna live on pizza. As far as dessert goes, like most women, just throw me anything slathered in chocolate and I’m happy as can be.

What are you reading right now?

I’m currently re-reading It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, and it’s truly a book I recommend to every woman.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to others just getting started in the world of blogging?

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt is to not lose perspective. Each of us start a blog to share our own individual voice. It’s something that’s so easy to lose in this social media era, when we change to look and sound like other, more successful bloggers, or sometimes, to even get free stuff by brands. So, my advice is, whether you have ten readers or ten thousand, never forget your individuality. Never lose your voice to sound like the crowd.
